What are Clinical Trials?

Before a drug is available at the pharmacy, it is investigated in clinical trials. Clinical trials are carefully monitored and documented scientific studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the investigational drugs to find new and better treatments for patients.  They are performed in a hospital or clinic setting in which physicians and other healthcare professionals observe and evaluate a volunteer’s response to an investigational drug. Investigational drugs must demonstrate their safety and efficacy to FDA (Food and Drug Administration) before they are approved.
